The Bayfield High School girls soccer team welcomed the Pagosa Springs Pirates on Tuesday and earned a shutout win in the process.
All three Bayfield goals came from Makenna Cowlen ,as she received assists from Misty Helton, Taylor Morris and Maddi Duran in the Wolverines’ 3-0 win.
“I think we did really well ,especially coming off a loss,” Bayfield head coach Jen Zelinksi said in a phone interview with The Durango Herald. “I’m proud that they are putting what we practice in the game, so they did a great job. To beat Pagosa is a big feat”
Bayfield (2-1, 2-0 3A Region 5) lost to Salida, 5-2, last week.
Pagosa Springs (0-2, 0-1) controlled most of the first half, but Bayfield began to get its momentum right before halftime when Cowlen scored her first goal.
Cowlen added her second goal on a deep kick after halftime, then added her third goal when she got to the open field.
“Makenna did a great job and deserves a lot of credit,” Zelinski said.
Bayfield won’t play another game that counts toward its record until March 26 when it hosts Ridgway.
