The Bayfield High School girls basketball team dropped its game against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers on Saturday afternoon, 59-29.
Bayfield hung around Cortez for the first quarter, trailing 13-8. But the second quarter is when the Panthers laid on the points and didn’t let the Wolverines back into the game and took a sizeable 28-12 lead at half time.
Kiselya Plewe led all scorers with 14 points for the Panthers, as Yannaba Bayles ended up with 11 points.
For the Wolverines, Tymbree Florian had eight points, Courtney Bayles had six points and Maddy Duran and Taylor Morris both finished with four points.
The Bayfield Wolverines (3-7, 0-3 3A Intermountain League) will play Ignacio (7-3, 4-0 2A/1A San Juan League) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ignacio High School.
