Bayfield hosting Round 1 of state playoffs

One of the top scorers on Bayfield's roster, senior Taed Heydinger (10) sprints into open space for a big gain during the Wolverines's regular-season home finale versus Alamosa on Oct. 23. Heydinger contributed 17 points towards the Wolverines' 41-7 mauling of the Mean Moose.

The Bayfield Wolverines will play the Manitou Springs Mustangs for the first round of 2A playoffs at noon on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Wolverine Country Stadium.

BHS defeated Pagosa Springs 54-8 on Friday night to end their undefeated 2015 regular season.

Bayfield is ranked first in the state 2A football bracket released Sunday by the Colorado High School Activities Association, while Manitou Springs is 16th.

Other matchups in Round 1 of the state playoffs are Moffat County and Brush; La Junta and Alamosa; Sterling and Faith Christian; Platte Valley and Gunnison; Alameda and Strasburg; Bennett vs. Eaton; and

Kent Denver playing The Academy, based in Westminster.

The winners will advance to state quarterfinals on Nov. 13-14.

Admission to Saturday's game is set by CHSAA and is $8 for adults, $5 for all students and seniors 65 and over, and children 4 and under are free.

There will be a lunch barbecue starting at 10:30 a.m. with bratwursts, hamburger, and hot dog meals with chips and a drink for $5, and a la carte items.
