With the Colorado High School Activities Association releasing the 2026 baseball all-state teams on Monday, now is a good time to look at which Bayfield and Ignacio High School athletes were recognized on the spring all-state teams. Bayfield had six athletes honored, with two making the first team, while Ignacio’s lone recipient made the first team.
Here are the Bayfield and Ignacio all-state honorees:
Lincoln Dekay, senior, Ignacio track and field
Dekay entered the 110-meter hurdles at the state meet as the No. 2 seed with a time of 15.68 seconds. His time of 15.41 in prelims was a huge personal record, but still second-best. Another massive personal record of 15.19 in finals gave him the state title and a spot on the 2A first-team all-state.
In track and field, the top three finishers at the state meet in each event (out of 18 competitors) get first team, the next three get second team, and the next three get honorable mention.
Ignacio’s star hurdler avenged his third-place finish in the 110 hurdles last year, when he ran a 15.83. At this year’s state meet, he also competed in the 300 hurdles, but finished 17th with a time of 48.44. This state title was Dekay’s second of the school year, as he was also a state champion wrestler in the winter.
Ayden Casillas, senior, Bayfield track and field
Casillas made the first-team all-state for two events. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.74, barely edging out Ernest Fields of Denver West. He also finished third in the 200 with a time of 22.16.
Bayfield’s star sprinter started running fast at the right time, dropping his times very quickly near the end of the season. He entered the state meet as the No. 1 seed in the 100 thanks to a massive personal best he ran only the week before. He signed with Colorado Mesa University on May 20, a week after the state meet, to continue running track in college.
Tanner Vyborny, junior, Bayfield track and field
Vyborny was the other Bayfield athlete to earn a spot on first-team all-state, thanks to his performance in the high jump. Vyborny’s leap of six feet, seven inches earned him second place. First-place finisher Trey Hall of Montezuma-Cortez also jumped 6-7, but did so on his first attempt. Vyborny cleared it on his second, meaning Hall had the tiebreaker and won the event.
As a rising senior, Vyborny will have one more chance next year to finally break through and win the high jump. At last year’s meet, he also jumped 6-7 to finish second. Hall is also a junior, so Vyborny will need to get his revenge if he wants the state title next year.
Tavian Box, senior, Bayfield baseball
Box earned a 3A honorable mention for his incredible hitting performance this year. His stellar batting average of .638 was No. 4 in the entire state of Colorado across all classifications and No. 1 in Class 3A. Box was more of a contact hitter, racking up RBIs as his ability to put the ball in play allowed his teammates to score.
The Wolverines finished the season 8-15 overall and 3-5 in league play, good for fourth in the 3A Intermountain League. They will miss Box and the rest of their large senior class heading into next season, with 11 players on their 19-player roster graduating this year.
Kyle Russell, senior, Bayfield track and field
Russell finished out his track and field career strong with an honorable mention in the 3A pole vault. His vault of 13-1 was good for ninth place, getting him the last honorable mention spot.
At the state meet, Russell breezed through the first few vaults. He cleared his starting height of 11-7, along with 12-1 and 12-7, all on his first attempt. It took him until his third and final attempt to clear 13-1, which gave Elizabeth sophomore and eighth-place finisher Ronin Ludengren the tiebreaker (Ludengren cleared it on his first attempt).
Vivien Clance, junior, Bayfield track and field
Clance competed in four events at state, the maximum number an athlete is allowed to do. Her strongest was the 100, as she ran a time of 12.95 to earn ninth place and an honorable mention.
The Wolverines’ workhorse needed a personal best to get into finals, running 12.59 in the preliminaries to take the last finals qualifying spot. Outside of her honorable mention in the 100, Clance also competed in the 200, 400 and high jump, achieving personal best marks in the 200 and 400, but falling short of finals in both.
Grace Brown, sophomore, Bayfield girls soccer
Brown earned a 3A honorable mention for her efforts as a center midfielder this year. While she was tied for third on the team with four goals, her role as essentially the point guard of the offense set her apart. Brown’s technical skills and field vision, along with transitioning into an excellent defender and a very strong work ethic, got her the honorable mention nod.
The Wolverines went 3-10-2 this year and 0-5-1 in league play to finish tied for fourth in the 3A Intermountain League. They started off their season with two shutout wins, but dropped their next nine games. They ended their season with two draws, a win and a loss, with the win coming at home over a Telluride team that beat them 7-1 earlier in the season.
