Bayfield library has summer events for all ages

The Pine River Library will be promoting healthy lifestyles with their fitness-themed Summer Reading Program in June and July. Participants of all ages will have the chance to win cool prizes by reading and completing other activities that keep both the mind and body healthy and active.

The kick-off event will be Friday, June 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

"Once again Pine River Library will offer a summer treasure trove of activities and reading opportunities for our patrons from cradle to grave," said Library Director Shelley Walchak. "Don't miss out on our travel series, music programs, STEAM activities and our incredible collection of materials to read, watch and listen to!"

For children, there will be events every Tuesday through Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. including special S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and fitness storytimes and opportunities for kids to read to dogs. Toddlers and babies are invited to Wee SRP every Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., which will feature fun lapsit and circle activities like fingerplays, songs, and stories. Teens will have weekly "camps" that run most Mondays through Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. with topics that range from painting to programming.

For adults, retired ASU professor Mark Curran will return to tell tales of his time on the National Geographic Explorer. His presentations will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 21 through August 3. There will also be a series of fitness programs including salsa dancing, Zumba, yoga, fly fishing, fly tying, and self-defense.

Participants can sign up at the June 3 kick-off event. Sign-ups will continue throughout the length of the program. Registration packets are available at the library.

The program finale will be on Saturday, July 30, with the First Annual Community S.T.E.A.M. Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the spirit of art and craft fairs, the S.T.E.A.M. Fair will feature tented booths with hands-on STEAM activities led by local biologists, chemists, naturalists, technologists, computer scientists, veterinary scientists, rocket scientists, engineers, emergency responders, artists, chefs, conservationists, and more.
