Music is part of this year's STEAM Fair, thanks to the Be FRANK Foundation. Lech Usiniwicz, center, the foundation director, leads kids in some trash can drumming on Saturday. During the hot afternoon, they added some water to the drumming so participants could splash and cool off while creating percussion pieces.

Tom Kaufman, marshal for Upper Pine Fire Protection District, helps some junior firefighters douse a flaming 'building.' The flames flip over if kids hit them directly with a fire hose. Department staff built the contraptions to provide kids with activities at community events and learn about fire safety.

Pine River Public Library hosted its first annual STEAM Fair on Saturday, celebrating all things in science, technology, engineering, arts and music.
Library staff and volunteers estimate more than 325 people attended the festival. Activities ranged from drumming to chemistry to physics, as well as some junior firefighters being able to douse a fire.
The library has movie nights and more activities on tap in August, and its second annual Zucchini Festival on Sunday, Sept. 11.
