Bayfield Lions celebrating 65th year

The Bayfield Lions Club is celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2018

All current and past members of the club are invited to the club’s annual steak fry at 1 p.m. Aug. 18.

In the past eight years, Bayfield Lions have donated more than $60,000 to local residents.

That included more than $20,000 for scholarships, $7,700 for eyeglasses, $3,000 for medical assistance, $5,000 for children’s clothing and $2,500 for dictionaries, which are distributed to all third-grade students in the Bayfield and Ignacio school districts.

Another $4,000 supported food for families, including Thanksgiving baskets and support for the Bayfield Food Bank.

Other recipients of gifts include the Be Frank Foundation, the veterans memorial in the Pine River Cemetery, and Bayfield Boy Scouts. The Lions are also known for their visits from Santa Claus to local children on Christmas Eve.

RSVPs for the steak fry are due Wednesday by calling 884-2054. Steaks tickets are $15 each, and participants are asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.
