The Pine River Valley Heritage Society Museum will open for the season with hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The grand opening is Saturday, with free ice cream from Lydia's Sweet Treats from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The musuem this year will honor the sacrifice of the many World War II soldiers from the Bayfield area, including three who died on the USS Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor. About 80 young people from the Pine River Valley went to war, and only 63 returned home, a casualty rate of 21.25 percent. The display includes military uniforms and memorabilia from the area.
