The Durango and Bayfield high school baseball teams were tied at 7 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday at BHS.

With two outs and Lance Mazur on second base, Caden Wood came up clutch, blasting a single over Durango’s center fielder to bring Mazur home and seal an 8-7 victory for the Wolverines.

"We had the right guy up, at the right time,“ said BHS head coach Bert Miller. ”I actually thought Caden swung the best bat all game long.“

Recipient of a no-decision as BHS' starter, Mazur (1 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 2 K) went 2-3 with a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs, smacking a two-run home run in the fifth off Demon starter Tagert Bardin (ND; 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, BB, 6 K).

Wolverine first baseman Noah Chamblee went 2-3 with a walk, two runs and a solo home run to lead off the second inning. Wood ended up 2-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI.

Jackson Queen relieved Mazur and worked four innings, allowing two hits, five runs, two earned, walking two Demons and fanning eight. He was pulled after DHS' breakout fifth, with BHS trailing 7-3.

Devin Davidovich smacked a bases-clearing double during DHS' big fifth inning. Catcher Matt Pane went 1-2 with a walk and a two-run single that capped the fifth-inning blitz. Shortstop Gavin Hamlin was 0-1, but drew three walks, scored once and plated one.

DHS also took on Cañon City on Saturday, but fell 5-0.
