Bayfield School District and the Pine River Library are looking for talented poets, songwriters and wordsmiths.

Both parties will host such creative minds during the library’s second annual poetry night at 6 p.m. April 4. Residents and Bayfield’s middle school and high school students are all welcome to take part and showcase their talent in the “poetry slam,” according to a news release on the school district’s website.

“I loved hearing the amazing poems that were shared last year,” library director Brenda Marshall said in the release. “The poets were brave, funny and inspiring. I’m really looking forward to this event.”

Bayfield High School English teacher Brian Sleevi said in the release that various forms of poetry are welcome.

“We’re looking for all kinds of poetry. So bring your spoken word, your slam, your rap. Share your sonnet or haiku. Recite your favorite Langston Hughes … or Shakespeare … or (Tupac). Read us the song you wrote in your composition book during math class. All of your words are welcome,” he said.

Participants will be given up to four minutes for each reading. The event is free to the public.

Students can sign up by talking to Sleevi or dropping by the high school library to add their name to the list.

Students and residents can also call 884-2222 (ext. 1) to sign up for the event.

For more information, contact Sleevi at 844-1134.
