Bayfield schools making ‘positive headway’

I understand that good news doesn’t sell newspapers. Often, we as the public are unaware of the good things happening, as either they do not get covered or ultimately, they do not make the cut for public consumption. That is why I wanted to share some good news from the Bayfield School District Accountability Committee that I am happy to sit on.

Superintendent Leon Hanhardt and Assistant Superintendent Bill Hesford have been working on a plan to improve the culture as well as align the academic mission and goals between all four Bayfield schools. Kudos to them and the school board for developing a continuous improvement strategy that charts performance and addresses areas needing attention.

Also, kudos to the principals at each school: Jan Alderton at the primary school; Amber Connet at the intermediate school; Marcia Hoerl at the middle school; and Amy Miglinas at the high school, for embracing and implementing that strategy and making positive headway, evident in improved student performance and attendance.

I am sure that each one of the principals would give credit for the improvement to their teachers for engaging and embracing the strategy as well. Obviously, the work is not done, or achievement goals completely satisfied, nor is anyone relaxing toward the continued effort. But I am confident that this fine team of academic administrators will continue to seek innovative and aligning strategies that best serve the interests of the students, parents and staff in the Bayfield School District. So, to me, that is newsworthy.
