Senior Ayden Casillas scored two goals and assisted on a third as Bayfield traveled Thursday to Alamosa and shut out the home side 3-0.

Casillas’ goals were assisted by, respectively, sophomore Maddex Larson and senior Zach Hufnagel, while Casillas set up senior Tauer Crotty’s icebreaking strike giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead barely 12 minutes in, and putting them on track to begin the last month of regular-season play stopping a three-match slide.

Having just steered out of a four-match goalless skid by scoring twice in a Sept. 27 draw with Montezuma-Cortez, the Mean Moose fell to 0-9-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the 3A Intermountain, but with a week to prepare for a Thursday trip to 2A Gunnison.

Looking ahead, Bayfield (5-7-0, 2-1-0) will next host M-CHS on Monday during homecoming week and then take a break from competition until visiting arch rival Pagosa Springs, which clipped the Wolverines 2-1 on Sept. 27 at BHS, on the 14th.

The Pirates improved to 9-1-0 overall, 4-0-0 IML Friday evening with a 2-0 win at Montezuma-Cortez (2-5-3, 0-2-1) prior to the Panthers’ Wolverine Country Stadium invasion.
