Bayfield sweeps Pagosa Springs in straight sets

Bayfield High School swept its Intermountain League rivals in straight sets Tuesday night at home.

Bayfield (9-2, 2-0 IML) beat Pagosa Springs 25-18, 25-16, 15-13.

“We played strong – offensively – (Tuesday night) with several contributing attackers,” BHS first-year head coach Terene Foutz said in an email to The Durango Herald late Tuesday night. “Katy Funkhouser was ‘Senior Strong’ and on her game.

“Our net game is improving, and we stayed focused through three sets.”

Funkhouser had nine kills and a .375 attack percentage.

Kirstie Hillyer had nine kills and a .600 attack percentage.

Tessa Powell had four kills and a .375 attack percentage.

Suzi Rhodes had 26 assists and three aces.

Maddi Foutz had seven digs and three aces.

“We look forward to hosting Centauri (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday to round out our BHS homecoming week,” coach Foutz said.
