The Pine River Library and the town of Bayfield received two grants, one from Colorado Health Foundation and one from Great Outdoors Colorado, to pay for construction of an ADA-accessible community park on the one-acre lot west of the library.
It will include a nature-themed playground, picnic area, multi-purpose athletics court, outdoor classroom, two structures for shade, pedestrian bridges and additional green space.
The library will host a final planning meeting in mid-May for community members to provide feedback and comment on the park’s design, and La Plata County commissioner Julie Westendorff will break ground at the kickoff event on May 20. The public also is invited to create a “pop-up playground” for the day as part of the kickoff.
Construction will continue through the summer and a ribbon-cutting ceremony is expected to occur in the fall.
