The Bayfield High School boys and girls track and field team traveled as a split team over the weekend, competing in the Pueblo Twilight Invitational on Friday and the Terry Allen Invitational at Pagosa Springs on Saturday.
Freshman Tymbree Florian’s bright track and field future took a significant turn as Florian broke the school record in the long jump at the Pueblo with a jump of 17 feet, 5.75 inches.
Carl Heide took fifth place in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.08 seconds. He also took seventh in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles at 43.16 seconds.
Sophomore Ryan Phelps finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 8 inches.
Amber Johnson took 10th in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.51 seconds.
At the Terry Allen Invitational, Bayfield saw senior Katie Hawkins win the pole vault with a jump of 9 feet, 1 inch. Colton Fine took first in the boys event with a jump of 10-7.
Sam Westbrook took first in the shot put with a throw of 45-1. He also took second in the discus with a throw of 134-0.
The relay team of Isis Gonzales, Amber Johnson, Bridget Goddard and Maddie Foutz took first place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:53.30.
The same relay team took second place in the 4x400-meter relay race with a time of 4:27.34.
Heide returned from the previous day to take first in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
In the 110, Heide took first with a run of 16.23 seconds and 42.60 seconds in the 300.
Heide also took third place in the high jump with a leap of 5-5.
Sky Vagneur took second for Bayfield in the high jump with 4-5. Foutz took send place with a jump of 8-7 in the pole vault. Foutz took third place in the 200-meter dash with a run of 28.05 seconds.
Florian returned her record-breaking performance from the previous day with a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16-5. Florian also took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a run of 13.44 seconds.
Chad Winkler took second with a jump of 10-1 in the pole vault.
Goddard took third in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:33.91 seconds. Johnson also took third place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.72. She also took fourth in the 100 with 17.95 seconds.
Senior Cash Snooks took third place in the pole vault with a leap of 9-1. Phelps took third in the shot put and the discus. In the shot put, Phelps threw 39-8, and in the discus he threw 133-6.
The team of Claire Belmear, Rachel Bauer, Shaylea Freier and Bri Marr took third in the 4x100 with a run of 57.22 seconds.
In the boys 4x400 relay, Heide, Alex Knight, Gus Roberts and Cody Speece took third place with a time of 3:41.30.
The 4x100 relay team took fourth with the team of Sam Kundrick, David Hawkins, Josh Westbrook and Jade Vitagliano finished with a time of 47.75 seconds.
The team of Knight, Sloan Mazur, Brandon Stuever and Speece took fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 8:50.91.
In the girls 400, Gonzales took fourth with a run of 1:06.52.
Up next for Bayfield is the Monte Vista Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Monte Vista.
