Bayfield Wolverines basketball back in the den hosting state games

3 games in Bayfield will determine Great 8 of 3A state tournament

Bayfield High School is fresh off its first district tournament championship since 1992. Six days after cutting down the nets inside Wolverine Gymnasium, the boys will return to the den seeking two more wins to reach the Great 8 round of the state tournament.

BHS is hosting the first two rounds of the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 3A Boys Basketball State Tournament by virtue of its 56-54 win at the buzzer against Alamosa in the district championship.

Both teams will compete for a chance at a rematch Saturday. First, No. 12 Alamosa (18-3) will face No. 21 Rye (14-9) at 5 p.m. Friday. Shortly after, the No. 5 Wolverines (15-6) will take on No. 28 Delta (12-10). The two winners will meet in the Sweet 16 at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bayfield.
