A 22-year-old Bayfield woman died late Friday or early Saturday while driving an all-terrain vehicle on a rough dirt trail north of Bayfield town limits.
The woman was identified as Loria Hunt.
Hunt and others were operating a hunting camp and cabin on a 3,500-acre ranch several miles up Bear Creek Road, which starts at Bear Creek subdivision north of Bayfield and south of Forest Lakes subdivision off County Road 501, said La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Bender.
She left the hunting camp about 10:30 p.m. Friday driving an ATV on a rocky and washboard access trail, Bender said.
She did not return that night, he said.
Hunt was found dead about 9:20 a.m. Saturday in a drainage on the side of the road with the ATV on top of her, Bender said.
No foul play is suspected; Bender said alcohol may be a factor.
An autopsy is planned for sometime this week.
