There are not many things that prompt me to write a public outcry, but what I learned this morning seems so typical of out-of-touch bureaucrats with the communities they serve.
It seems the town of Bayfield has withdrawn its financial support (a paltry $15,000 per year) from the Road Runner Transit System that serves more than 40 citizens, including many who are handicapped or elderly who have no other transportation options.
One gentleman, whom I know personally, had a terrible accident that rendered him somewhat handicapped. He has a family that he supports by using this transport from his home to his job in Durango. It’s people like this that will be dramatically affected by these cold-blooded bureaucrats trying to squeeze pennies from their strained budgets.
Everybody understands that times are difficult, but why must it always be the people who suffer?
