Bayfield YAFL teams host home games

5th grade team undefeated this year

The Bayfield Young American Football League teams hosted their homes games on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Wolverine Country Stadium. The fifth grade team kept up their winning streak, remaining undefeated this season. The team is 6-0 and on Oct. 6 will play the Farmington Panthers, the other remaining undefeated team at 5-0.

The fifth grade team has had three shutouts this season: Kirtland 41-0, Bloomfield 34-0, and Montezuma 33-0. In the remaining three games, the team allowed only one touchdown in each game: Durango 24-6, Cortez 25-7 and Aztec 32-6.

The boys won the Four Corners YAFL Superbowl in third grade and were runners up last year, losing to Aztec. The team is coached by Justin Ross. Special teams coach is Daniel Russel, the offensive line coach is Clay Rathjen and defensive coach is Jimmy Cundiff.
