Bayfield’s Noah Loutherback signs with Fort Lewis College football

Wolverines’ senior to continue football career with Skyhawks

Make it a pair of Wolverines for the Skyhawks.

After winning the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 2A State Football Championship in 2015, the Bayfield High School football team has had a slew of players receive scholarship offers, and two seniors have made their commitments official by signing National Letters of Intent to play for the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks in Durango.

After Wyatt Freier, a linebacker, made his decision on National Signing Day a week ago, lineman Noah Loutherback made his decision official at a signing ceremony Monday at Bayfield High School.

“I’m super excited and thankful to the Skyhawks for the scholarship,” Loutherback said in a message to The Durango Herald. “All the hard work and prayers are paying off.”

The son of Brad and Jennifer Loutherback will play offensive line for the Skyhawks. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder is part of a signing class for Fort Lewis that includes 14 freshman and three junior college transfers.

Loutherback paved the way for the top rushing attack in Class 2A and proved himself as a pass blocker during the team’s state championship run through the playoffs. Defensively, he totaled 30 tackles and one sack, and he also recovered one fumble.

Loutherback isn’t done on the field for Bayfield, though. He will look to help a talented baseball team back into the state playoffs this spring.

“Just want to thank God, my family, my coaches and friends for helping me to where I am,” Loutherback said.
