Be on time for flight

Airport recommends early arrival

Durango-La Plata County Airport officials remind passengers to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before flight time.

“As we enter the busy summer travel season, lines may be longer than anticipated,” the airport said in a statement. “Travelers are advised to give themselves plenty of time to park, check in and go through TSA screening.”

Kip Turner, director of aviation, said late arrival is an ongoing problem, but that it is more pronounced as summer travel increases.

“People arrive 30 to 40 minutes early and wonder why they can’t make their flight,” Turner said. “They like to blame the airlines, which are not doing anything wrong.”

Travelers should allow 90 minutes to two hours for all transactions at the airport, Turner said.

It’s preferable to spend extra time in the departure lounge than rebooking a missed flight, the statement said.
