Bear country educational hikes to take place in Perins Peaks State Wildlife area

Guided hikes run by Bear Smart Durango will take place on Sept. 19, 23, 26 and 30 in Perins Peak State Wildlife Area. The hike is moderate and primarily off-trail with minimal elevation gain.

Attendees are asked to have a Colorado Parks and Wildlife Habitat Stamp, which can be purchased at the CPW Fish Hatchery office, 151 E. 16th St., or by phone a (800) 244-5613.

These hikes will teach how bears live in the wild, how to safely recreate in bear country, and what can be done to reduce human and bear conflict.

The hikes are free, space is limited and reservations are required to attend.
