Bear falls through skylight, eats birthday cupcakes

It’s a tragic story of a true party animal.

A 180-pound young bear fell through the skylight into the living room of a suburban Juneau, Alaska, home on Wednesday during a baby’s first birthday party – and proceeded to eat cupcakes, reports the Juneau Empire .

“I was literally in the room, and I heard this cracking,” father and homeowner Glenn Merrill told the paper. “The next thing you know, there’s this bear that, I mean literally, fell right from (the skylight). It was like one meter away from me.”

Guests of baby Jackson’s birthday had yet to arrive and the family had been making last-minute preparations for the party. According to the paper, the grandparents took the baby upstairs, while Merrill went into the next room and watched the young bear recover from the fall.

To their astonishment, the bear calmly ambled to the food spread to eat the lemon blueberry and peanut butter cupcakes.

Merrill opened the back door and shooed the bear outside. When the bear kept returning, the family called 911 and sprayed mace at it, at which time it walked into the woods.

Half an hour later, a bear suspected to be the same animal walked inside another occupied house and was shot and killed by the Juneau Police Department.
