Bee Heroic, a pollinator and climate project, began its Pollen Nation Tour this year to educate people around the country about climate engineering – known as geoengineering or global climate modification – and how it relates to climate change, plant health, pollinator loss and the environment as a whole.
Led by Bee Heroic founder and director Nikki Florio, a “Buds and Bees” event was held June 7 at Venus Moon Farm in Hesperus, which offered information about geoengineering.
Florio said Bee Heroic’s events provide information from scientific sources to educate people about geoengineering. The GeoEngineering Watch website says geoengineering is the artificial modification of the Earth’s climate systems through solar radiation management and carbon dioxide removal.
For its second event this summer in Durango, the organization will offer a free mixer and presentations about geoengineering from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Living Tree, 680 Main Ave.
Anyone interested in geoengineering or who wants to learn more is encouraged to attend Sunday’s event. It will feature presentations about the scope of geoengineering, with highlights focused on how climate modification projects affect the environment, plants, pollinators, human health and economies; who executes, governs and profits from them; why communities in Colorado know so little about them; and what people can do to take action.
