Bennet did not fight for our democracy

In Sen. Bennet’s editorial in The Durango Herald (Feb. 19), the senator states, “We need to fight for our democratic processes before they slip away.”

The filibuster of Judge Neil Gorsuch for a lifetime Supreme Court appointment was just such a fight. Why didn’t the senator announce his support for the filibuster, as more than 30 Democratic senators did?

The Republican refusal to hold hearings for Judge Merrick Garland during the Obama administration was an extreme example of our democratic process slipping away!

The outrageous obstruction and stonewalling by Senate Republicans effectively stole this Supreme Court seat.

The dangerous right-wing views to our democracy, held by Gorsuch, are incompatible with the majority of Colorado voters. What is it about Bennet’s reluctance to publicly come out in favor of the filibuster of this stolen Supreme Court seat?

Bennet needs to publicly explain why he did not join with his fellow Democrats to support the filibuster.
