Bennet understands what really matters

I’m with Sen. Michael Bennet. I have watched his political career closely, and compared to Republicans in Congress, this man has worked long and hard to represent his constituents as a senator should. He listens, he observes, he considers and thinks and provides solutions to their problems.

He has served us well in Southwest Colorado. With the anniversary of the Gold King Mine spill, our community remembers how Sen. Michael Bennet fought for us in its wake. Michael was ready to work with anyone in Congress to speed recovery and get us fair compensation. He understood that the EPA’s admission of responsibility wasn’t enough for those living with the spill’s aftermath. That’s why he pushed President Obama to funnel federal resources into cleanup on the Animas, make potable water more accessible and create a claims process to reimburse local communities’ recovery costs.

Michael is also fighting for legislation to prevent future spills, supporting bills that encourage voluntary mine cleanups and reforms to our embarrassingly out-of-date 1872 mining law. Michael knows collaboration is essential to accomplishing anything in a gridlocked Congress.

Interestingly, his Republican opponent, Darryl Glenn, can’t name a single Democrat with whom he would work. Clearly, Glenn would only add to the Washington gridlock.

Here in Durango, we know all too well that when disaster strikes, getting help matters more than scoring political points. Michael Bennet gets this and his opponent simply doesn’t.
