While the rest of the world celebrates Leap Day Saturday, Feb. 29, the Pine River Valley Heritage Society will celebrate the valley’s best bakers at its annual Cabin Fever pie auction.
All proceeds from the fundraiser go directly to the free, all-volunteer museum on Mill Street in Bayfield — open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, June through September.
After a free chili or soup dinner and entertainment from Joel Racheff of the Bar-D-Wranglers, auctioneer Ron Dunavant will take bids and the La Plata County royalty will showcase dozens of homemade pies baked by the area’s top bakers.
Last year, a homemade sour cream-raisin pie brought in $90 for the museum. The average pie went for $40 and the $2-a-slice offerings kept everyone happy.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, 2011 East Bayfield Parkway.
