This weekend, community members are encouraged to get active, because the best bets for people in Durango include two fundraising runs/walks in support of breast cancer awareness and rescued dogs at Lisa Parker’s Puppies.
To support prevention and treatment of breast cancer during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mercy Health Foundation will host the annual 5K run/walk fundraiser, Journey of Hope, on Saturday morning at Mercy Regional Medical Center, 1010 Three Springs Blvd.
A race for runners will start at 9 a.m., and walkers will follow at 9:15 a.m.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. the day of the event. To register in advance, call 764-2800.
Lisa Parker’s Puppies will hold its Animas Mug Run fundraiser, sponsored by Alpine Bank, on Sunday morning at Animas Mountain Trail. Participants will meet in the parking lot at the trailhead at the north end of West Fourth Avenue off 32nd Street.
A 6.2-mile trail run will start at 9 a.m., followed by a 3.5 mile run/hike at 9:03 a.m. and a 1 mile run/hike for kids at 9:06 a.m. The 3.5 mile and 1 mile runs/hikes are dog-friendly. Proceeds go to help rescued dogs at Lisa Parker’s Puppies find “forever homes.”
Registration ends Saturday. To register, visit www.runsignup.com/race/co/durango/animasmugrun.
