Palm Sunday, which falls on April 9 this year, celebrates the moment Jesus entered Jerusalem in triumph on the back of a donkey. The Bible describes the scene as occurring in the days before Jesus’ death and resurrection. Traditionally, worshippers at Palm Sunday Mass are given small crosses made of palms, which are later burned to create the ash used to mark people’s foreheads during the next year’s Ash Wednesday.
