Best bets for the weekend in Durango include books, beer, snowboards and more books, with the “Big Bag” book sale Friday and Saturday, the Ska Brewing Co. and Venture Snowboards winter kickoff party Saturday evening and the Durango Book Rescue free-book giveaway Sunday.
The “Big Bag” book sale will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave. Community members are invited to fill a Friends of the Library bag with books for $10.
The sale will feature a large selection of books in every genre, including books for toddlers to high-schoolers, holiday books and a books suitable as stocking-stuffers. People who renew Friends of the Library memberships for $5 will qualify for a chance to win a bag of books of their preference. Each participant is limited to three $10 bags. If people want to buy more than three bags, the books will be sold at $1 per pound. Proceeds go to Durango Public Library and its branches.

The 13th annual Ska Brewing Co. season kickoff party, with Silverton’s Venture Snowboards, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Ska brewery, 225 Girard St.
There will be live music by Farmington Hill, beer specials and prizes from Silverton Mountain, Purgatory Resort and Spark R&D. A Pink Vapor Stew custom snowboard by Venture will also be given away. The event is open to people 21 and older.
