Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include the three-day, 65th annual Four Corners Gem and Mineral Show at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

The Four Corners Gem and Mineral Club will hold the show Friday through Sunday at the fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

The theme is “Blue Sapphire,” and the three-day extravaganza will feature:

Gems, minerals and jewelry presented by about 60 vendors from all over the world.Visual displays from Mesa Verde National Park, Animas Museum, San Juan College, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and Salmon Ruins.Gold panning activities for kids.Door prizes and a silent auction for various items, such as jewelry, minerals, handcrafted artworks from club artists and tools.The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Three entrances will be available to accommodate expanded offerings:

One at the west Extension Building for educational displays and local club member artisans.One at the central patio area, which will include vendors from around the country.One in Exhibit Hall, which will also include vendors from around the country.Cost is $2 per person and includes a door-prize ticket. Children 14 and younger, accompanied by an adult, receive free admission. Pets are not allowed.

Proceeds will fund club operations and the club’s annual scholarship for a Fort Lewis College geoscience student.
