Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include the Garden Club of Durango plant sale and “shimmy mob” belly dancing performances on Saturday and Mother’s Day events on Sunday.

The Garden Club of Durango will hold its annual plant sale – “Perennials from our Garden” – at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Santa Rita Park, 149 South Camino del Rio.

The event is free, open to all and will occur regardless of the weather. Proceeds will help maintain the gardens at Santa Rita Park.

Local belly dancers will give “shimmy mob” performances Saturday in Durango to benefit Alternative Horizons and celebrate World Belly Dance Day.

Shimmy Mob is a worldwide belly-dance flash mob movement that raises money to support programs for victims of abuse.

This year’s Durango team includes 28 dancers, who will perform at:

10 a.m., Main Mall, 835 Main Ave.11 a.m., Durango Farmers Market in the parking lot of First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.Noon, Father’s Daughter Pizza, 600 Main Ave.1:30 p.m., Sunshine Gardens Senior Community, 25 Sunshine Court.2:30 p.m., Durango Mall near T.J. Maxx and Ross Dress for Less, 800 S. Camino del Rio.

Mother’s Day is on Sunday and Durango residents will celebrate mothers and matriarchy with a train ride to Silverton, brunch events and a gnome painting party.
