Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend in the area include a two-day fly-fishing festival on Saturday and Sunday at various locations in Durango and the Run the Rim Exercise Science Department scholarlarship fun run on Sunday at Fort Lewis College.

Duranglers Flies and Supplies will hold its two-day fly-fishing festival Friday and Saturday to celebrate the start of the season.

The two-day event features fun activities, education, clinics, deals and demonstrations with Duranglers staff and fly-fishing industry friends, including a presentation about the Gunnison River on Friday at the DoubleTree Hotel and a long list of events Saturday.

Participants have the opportunity to learn about updates in the industry, fishing techniques and new gear.

Events will be offered both days at various locations in Durango.

Duranglers fly shop is located at 923 Main Ave.

The Run the Rim 5K and 10K race, a fundraiser for the Fort Lewis College Exercise Science Department scholarship, will be held Sunday at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

The 10K race will start at 9:45 a.m. and the 5K will start at 10 a.m.

A new course route will be featured this year.

Participants will meet at the clocktower before the race begins.

Race-day registration will be available.

Proceeds go to the FLC exercise science department scholarship fund.

Entry fees for community members not affiliated with FLC are $30 for the 10K and $20 for the 5K. FLC faculty at staff can enter for $25 and $16. FLC students can enter for $20 and $14.
