Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend in Durango will be at the 13th annual Durango Independent Film Festival, which includes more than 20 film screenings through Sunday. The festival introduces the community to independent filmmakers for the opportunity to experience and discuss a diverse list of live-action and animated films.

The film festival is a full weekend of activities at various locations around Durango. There are film screenings, parties, panels and workshops, as well as special guests.

Mackenzie Astin, who has appeared in film and television for more than 30 years, is this year’s special guest. Recent television credits include recurring roles on “The Magicians,” “Scandal” and “Homeland,” as well as guest appearances on “Mad Men,” “Shameless,” “Castle” and “Bones.”

Films will be screened throughout the weekend at businesses and theaters, including Durango Stadium 9, Animas City Theatre and Gaslight Theatre.

An assortment of tiered passes can be purchased for entry into all showings and parties. The All-Film Pass is $175 plus fees and guarantees entry into all screenings with priority seating.

Passes can be purchased online at http://bit.ly/2FHwdGK and picked up at the will-call desk at the Durango Welcome Center, 802 Main Ave. Individual tickets for a film can be purchased only at the screening venues beginning 15 minutes before showtime.
