People’s best bets over the New Year’s Eve holiday weekend in and around Durango include a weekend-long retreat at Durango Dharma Center, a “Creating 2018” event in Bayfield and numerous New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“The Art of Intention,” a nonresidential New Year’s weekend retreat, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Durango Dharma Center, 1800 East Third Ave.
The event will encourage participants to look inward and reflect on their deepest intentions and motivations. The retreat will be led by longtime Dharma Center teachers Erin Treat and Brian Lesage, who will explore the art of intention through meditation, wise reflection and inquiry. Ceremonies that invite participants to honor the old and welcome the new will also be included.
For more information about the retreat and teachers and to register, visit www.durangodharmacenter.org/event-2643391.
“Creating 2018,” an event that looks back at 2017 and ahead to 2018, will be held from noon to 6:15 p.m. Sunday at Living Well, 135 W. Mill St., in Bayfield.
Participants will look back at 2017 to examine what worked and what didn’t and will ask, “What will you create in 2018?” People are encouraged to ask questions about what they want to create, clarify and be proactive about. Those who attend will leave with tools to help stay focused and a community to connect with moving forward.
Light snacks with refreshments will be provided.
Attendees must make a $25 deposit to hold a spot. The cost is $100 at the door. To make a reservation, call Dawn Calahan at 903-7788. Space is limited.
