Best bets for the weekend in and around Durango

Best bets for the weekend in Durango include events inside and out. A presentation about the election process and an animal-tracking snowshoe hike will be held Saturday, and a slopestyle ski and snowboard competition will take place Saturday and Sunday.

The La Plata County League of Women Voters will hold a talk about the election process with Tiffany Parker, La Plata County clerk, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

The presentation, “What’s New and What’s True: An Explanation of the Election Process in La Plata County,” will be given by Parker and Erin Hutchins, election administrator. They will explain the election cycle to attendees, including details about registration, primaries, voting and counting votes.

People will be able to ask questions and examine new voting equipment that will be used this year. Those who wonder about the accuracy, validity or safety of elections are urged to attend.

The Durango Herald will live stream the event on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/thedurangoherald.
