All community members are invited to Durango School District 9-R’s second annual Arts Market & Round Dance from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at Durango High School’s Auxiliary Gym, 2390 Main Ave.

The Art Market will open at noon, supper will be served at 4 p.m. and the round dance will begin at 5 p.m. This event is hosted by the Durango Native American Education Program and will benefit Indigenous students and educational programs.

This year is special as the Native American Parent Advisory Committee and Orlando Griego, the district’s Title VI Native American Education coordinator, would like to honor and acknowledge DHS teacher Elfreida Begay. She supports Indigenous students and is the first public school teacher in Colorado who is certified to lead a course in Diné Bizaad, the Navajo language. The course was launched this year at DHS.
