State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara returns to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College with its annual performance of the Christmas classic “The Nutcracker.”

The ballet company is joined by the San Juan Symphony and young local dancers who perform as party-goers, mice, angels, soldiers and bon-bons.

“The Nutcracker” tells the story of a young girl whose godfather, a skilled clock and toy maker, presents her with a toy nutcracker during a holiday party. In her dream, the toy comes to life and escorts her on a journey to a magical land, where a cast of unusual characters entertains her through dance.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $26-$49 and are available online at durangoconcerts.com.
