Best bets in and around Durango

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved ones on the train this weekend with Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge’s “Romance on the Rails” event.

The train will travel through Cascade Canyon and back to Durango from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets range from $49 to $169.

All passengers who book first class will receive a complimentary flower. For an additional $40, passengers can purchase a “Love Basket,” which includes four chocolate strawberries and Prosecco.

Vallecito Conservation and Sporting Association will host its annual ice fishing tournament Saturday at Vallecito Reservoir.

New this year is a youth division for those 17 and younger. They will be eligible to win non-cash prizes. Contestants 18 and older are eligible for cash prizes.

Registration is from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and costs $45 for adults. For youths accompanied by a registered adult, registration is free. Contestants can save time the day of by filling out waivers and forms before the event, which can be found at https://vcsa-co.org/forms-1.
