The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown is returning this weekend for the 27th year. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 21, 22 and 23) will feature a variety of musical performances at local venues around Durango. Tickets are available online at durangomeltdown.com and at the Box Office in the Durango Art Center, 802 East Second Ave. Prices vary from $60-150 and children 12 years and under are free.
The Warm-Up for the Meltdown has become one of the festival’s more popular traditions. This free, two-hour concert is held on Friday, 5–7 p.m. at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad Museum, 479 Main Ave. The performances will be by Bluegrouse and the Colorado College Bluegrass Ensemble. Adult beverages will be available for purchase.
The Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave., will be hosting Durango Meltdown’s Second Annual Band Contest on Saturday, 3-5 p.m. The lodge will also be holding the Old-Time Barn Dance featuring Tall Poppy String Band and Six Dollar String Band. Doors open on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
