Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include a variety of Fourth of July celebrations.

Despite the city of Durango canceling the fireworks display because of fire danger, there will be activities to enjoy Sunday, the Fourth of July.

The All-American gourmet breakfast will take place from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Rotary Park. Cost is $10 for ages 13 and older, $5 for ages 5 to 12 and children 4 and younger can attend free. bloody marys or mimosas are $5.

The July 4th Concert will begin at 9:15 a.m. at Rotary Park. Southwest Civic Winds Concert Band and Civic Winds Jazz Orchestra will perform.

The annual Fourth of July picnic will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Buckley Park and will feature food and beer by Ska Brewing and Steamworks Brewing and music by The Badly Bent and Kirk James.

The Fourth of July Street Dance will take place from 5 to 9:30 p.m. in the Transit Center parking lot. Ska Brewing will host a beer garden, and food will be available from Grassburger and Mariana’s Authentic Cuisine. There will also be children’s activities and music by Stillhouse Junkies and DJ Calvin.

The town of Bayfield will host a Fourth of July celebration, beginning with the Bayfield Lions Club pancake breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at 451 Church St. and the Calvary Presbyterian Church pie sale and craft fair at 8 a.m. at 89 E. Mill St.

The “Let’s Not Overdo It This Year” 2K Firecrackers fun run will begin at 10 a.m. at Bayfield Elementary School, 511 E. Mustang Lane. There will be kids’ activities with the Powerhouse Science Center and the Alpine Bank strider bike pump track from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Joe Stephenson Park.

The Bayfield Rotary Club beer garden will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Joe Stephenson Park, along with food and merchandise vendors. Live music with 3rd and Long will be provided from 2 to 5 p.m. at the north softball field.

The flag raising and national anthem will take place at 11:45 a.m. at Pine River Valley Heritage Museum and will be followed by the Fourth of July parade at noon along Mill Street. Activities with restaurants and businesses will take place after the parade.

Farmington’s Freedom Days celebration begins with the Freedom Days Park Play Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brookside Park. This free, family-friendly event will feature lawn games, prizes and food trucks, as well as live radio broadcasts.

The city’s fireworks display will take place at 9:25 p.m. Saturday and will be set off from Sullivan Hill.

On Sunday, the Freedom Days Electric Light Parade will cap off the festivities from 9 to 11 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Farmington.
