The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College will host Erik Weihenmayer as part of the Making a Difference Speaker Series from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Weihenmayer is the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, but that is only one of many adventures he has undertaken. In 2014, he kayaked the entire 277 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.

Weihenmayer will share his inspirational story about facing challenges and contributing his best to the world. He also co-founded No Barriers to help people with challenges, is a bestselling author and motivational speaker.

The third annual Durango Winter Pride will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday and continue all day Saturday for LGBTQ+ events at various locations in Durango and at Purgatory Resort.

Winter Pride events will include 10:30 a.m. ski meetups at Purgatory’s Lift 1; meet and greets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Paradise Pizzeria on Friday and Saturday; the Fresh Powder Drag Hour at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Down the Rabbit Hole; OUT and About ice skating at 1:15 Saturday at Chapman Hill; and the Winter Pride Talent Show and Winter Pride Dance at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. respectively Saturday at Animas City Theatre.
