Best bets this weekend include The Raven Narratives and Durango’s Earth Day Celebration.
The Raven Narratives storytelling shows will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sunflower Theatre at KSJD, 8 Main St., in Cortez, and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., in Durango.
The eight- to 10-minute true stories are told live onstage without notes. The theme for this weekend’s shows is rites of passage.
Local storytellers include Jane Dally, Thomas Yates, Cat Strickland, Tammy Hoier, Mike Bienkowski, Callee Wells, Nyibol Bior and Matt Cornell. Each storyteller will share a true story from their life about how they experienced a rite of passage, whether it be humorous, dramatic or inspirational.

Durango Nature Studies will host an Earth Day Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Rotary Park, 1565 East Second Ave., in Durango. This will be a free, family-friendly event, co-sponsored by the city of Durango, Citizens Climate Lobby, Climate Love Project and Indivisible’s Environmental Committee.
The event will begin with a litter cleanup along the Animas River Trail at noon, followed by the festival at Rotary Park at 1 p.m. The Pete Guiliani Band will provide live music and refreshments will be offered. Environmental organizations will discuss local efforts, and fun activities for children will show them how they can get involved in loving their planet. Four Corners River Sports will host kayak races at 3:30 p.m. The event will end with a parade to the library to demonstrate love for the planet.
