Best bets this weekend include Festival of Trees and the “Light Up the Town” parade.
The 17th annual Festival of Trees and Wreaths will take place virtually from noon Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday.
While Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will host 40 locally-sponsored trees and wreaths, this year’s event will be held online at www.CCIFOT.givesmart.com.
The online setting provides increased accessibility for people with disabilities, a central mission of Community Connections.
Online, participants may view a narrated tour; bid on more than 60 trees and wreaths, gifts and decorations; and enter for a chance to win one of five raffle prize packages, including lodging, dining and outdoor adventure vacation packages and an Essential Package, which includes gas, groceries, cleaning and hardware gift cards. Stories about Community Connections’ impact on the lives of people with disabilities will also be available to hear.
All proceeds benefit Community Connections. Register online at www.CCIFOT.givesmart.com or text CCIFOT to 76278 for updates. For more information, visit www.communityconnectionsco.org.
The “Light Up the Town” holiday parade will take place at 5:30 p.m. Friday starting at Ignacio High School, 315 Ignacio St.
The parade offers a safe holiday experience for families by challenging local businesses and residents to decorate homes or businesses in holiday décor and/or create a lit float or vehicle to drive in the parade. Santa will make a special appearance by helicopter.
People who want to experience the parade are encouraged to park on the streets and watch from their vehicle. KSUT Tribal Radio will play holiday music on 91.3 FM and will broadcast live.
The parade will begin and end at IHS, traveling down Goddard Avenue to Pine Street and to Browning Avenue and back to the high school.
