Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include the Astronaut Perspectives lecture and a benefit Hawaiian luau.

The Powerhouse Science Center will host the second of a nine-part space-themed lecture series, Astronaut Perspectives, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday via Facebook livestream.

Wendy Lawrence and Bill Readdy, both veterans of multiple space shuttle missions, will discuss their personal paths that led them to becoming astronauts and their experiences flying in space. A Q&A session will be held after the event.

The SOS Help Brittny Beat MS Luau will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wines of the San Juan, 233 Highway 511, Blanco, New Mexico.

The Hawaiian-style luau will feature a pig roast, music and a silent auction, all to benefit Brittny Arnold, who is receiving treatment to stop her multiple sclerosis.

Tickets are $50 and reservations must be made in advance by calling the winery at (505) 632-0879. Masks and social distancing are required.

The ticket price includes a glass of wine or a beer, Hawaiian-style pork, coconut rice, Hawaiian sweet potatoes and fresh fruit kabobs.
