Best bets this weekend include the Coke Race Series and a virtual event at the Cortez Public Library.
The second race in the Coke Series will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Durango Nordic Center, 49786 U.S. Highway 550, north of Purgatory Resort.
The series brings skiers together to celebrate winter from beginning to end. Because of COVID-19 regulations, interval race starts will be implemented and pre-event registration is required. Interval start times will be posted online Friday. Bib pickup will take place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
Race-day and late registrations will not be accepted. Cost is $10 per event for youths and $20 per event for adults. To register, visit bit.ly/39UKCif.
Cortez Public Library will host a virtual event with Scott Graham and Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk at 6 p.m. Friday via Zoom.
Graham will discuss the sixth book in his National Park Mystery Series, “Mesa Verde Victim.” Lopez-Whiteskunk will discuss local stewardship of Four Corners environmental and cultural resources from literary and Indigenous community perspectives.
