Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include “PAWS for Celebration,” a benefit for Lisa Parker’s Puppies, and Fenceline Ciders one-year anniversary party.

Lisa Parker’s Puppies will host its annual fundraiser, “PAWS for Celebration,” from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the Durango Elks Lodge banquet room, 901 East Second Ave. This is one of the organization’s biggest fundraisers of the year. In past years, the event has raised enough money to support rescue efforts for an entire year.

Lisa and Eric Parker launched Lisa Parker’s Puppies in the spring of 2014 after rescuing a litter of six bottle-feeding puppies. Since then, they’ve built a network of community partners, volunteers and foster homes. Their mission is to “rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners, while also raising awareness for spay and neuter and the proper stewardship of animals.”

Tickets for the event are $20 and can be purchased at the door. For more information, visit www.lisaparkerspuppies.com.

Fencline Ciders will celebrate its one-year anniversary from 5 to 10 p.m. today at Outlier Cellars, 141 S. Main St., in Mancos.

The creators of Fencline Ciders, Neal Wight and Samuel Perry, are passionate about reviving America’s cider tradition. They work with historic local orchards to create all their artisan ciders, which allows them to produce a more delicate apple flavor than most mass-produced ciders.

In addition to artisan ciders, the anniversary party will feature live music by The Crags, free pizza from Sweetwater Gypsies with the purchase of a cider and a raffle.
