Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Kimber McConnel on her horse, Badger, pulls skier Nate Rock in 2019 down the course during the Silverton Skijoring competition on Blair Street.

Best bets this weekend include Silverton Skijoring and the San Juan College Symphonic Band performance.

Silverton’s annual skijoring event will kick off at noon Saturday on Blair Street and will run through Sunday evening.

Skijoring features skiers pulled by a horse or, new this year, a motorcycle. Racers are towed at 35 to 45 miles per hour down snow-covered Blair Street as they attempt to get the fastest time while flying over jumps and catching rings on a baton.

Spectators can watch from the side of Blair Street, and those who are 21 or older can watch while enjoying a beer at the Party Zone sponsored by 805 Beer.

General admission to the races is free and this is a family-friendly event. Tickets to the Party Zone are $20 and may be purchased online at bit.ly/2uwP1aO. No dogs or drones are allowed on or near the racecourse or in the stable area.
