Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include the Celebration of Winter and the Durango High School Powwow.

The Durango Winter Sports Foundation will present the Celebration of Winter at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio.

This family-friendly event will include a silent auction, food, drinks, the snow dance, entertainment and the induction into the Hall of Fame of legendary alpine skier and coach Joe Holgate.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children. All proceeds support scholarships for Nordic, freestyle, Alpine and free-ride team members.

Durango High School’s Native American Club will collaborate with the Native American Parental Advisory Committee to host a powwow at 10 a.m. Saturday at DHS.

The event will celebrate National Native American Heritage Month and include gourd dance sessions, category dance contests and a Native American arts market. During the powwow, graduating high school students and all military veterans in attendance will be honored.

The Native American arts market will open at 10 a.m. The gourd dancing and contest category dancing will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Grand Entry will take place around 6 p.m.
