Best bets this weekend in and around Durango

Best bets this weekend include Durango Fiesta Days and “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).”

Durango Fiesta Days kicks off from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and will run through July 28 in downtown Durango and at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

Fiesta Days celebrates the history and heritage of the Durango area. The event will feature a weeklong celebration of Durango with a variety of family-friendly events. Events will take place throughout the week and include a parade, the Snow Top rodeo, a petting zoo, hay rides, dancing, rodeo events for kids, pizza, chuckwagon cook-off sponsored by the La Plata/Archuleta Cattlemen’s Association, a pie auction, a barbecue and a street dance.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” will kick off the first of six performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Sunflower Theatre at KSJD, 8 E. Main St., Cortez.

The performance provides an irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s plays. The show was London’s longest-running comedy, running for nine years in London’s West End at the Criterion Theatre. It is now performed worldwide.

The play will feature actors James Ayers, Cassidy Livengood and Liv Story, with assistant director and stage manager Alex York.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at bit.ly/2GfnEV0. Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 20, July 26 and July 27; and at 2 p.m. July 21 and July 28.
